A brand new business in Biggleswade
April 28, 2020In June 2019, Barry Swain was made redundant after 18 years working in the media industry and with two young children and with his wife working in London, he was left with no choice but to change his career path.
Joining forces with GroutGleam, he quickly started up on his own and started up Revive to provide a unique service of cleaning, restoring and recolouring tile grout and replacing silicone in bathrooms and kitchens locally in Central Bedfordshire and North Hertfordshire.
Barry hit the ground running, learning a new trade whilst also training as a tiler to compliment the work he was to carry out. Work quickly picked up as Revive was gradually built up from the ground and in the first year the workload steadily grew as the business gained recognition locally.
Its been a complete change from life sitting behind a desk but Barry is enjoying life working for himself. “I always fancied doing something that will keep me fit. Sitting at as desk all day isn’t good for posture! I’m really enjoying getting out and meeting local people and working towards ensuring they are happy with the work that I am carrying out for them.”
Life in media isn’t completely lost to Barry. He is also a recognised football commentator and presenter, working for the likes of Sky Sports, talkSPORT, The FA and he is also a qualified ADC commentator for Wembley Stadium. He continues to voice commentary for matches at weekends whilst keeping himself busy during the week, bringing people’s tiles back to life.
“I’ve always wanted to run my own business but never thought I would get the chance. It is the best decision I’ve ever made. I’m the boss. It gives me the flexibility to work around school, childcare and my wife working long hours in London.”
